Meet Phil Byrd
Candidate for Guilford County Sheriff
I was raised on a tobacco farm in Southern Guilford County. The hard work and long hours instilled the work ethic that I would carry with me throughout my life, including my career in law enforcement. I graduated from John Wesley College with a B.A. in Management & Ethics and graduated from the University of Louisville’s, Administrative Officers Program.
I spent my 30 year career with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, retiring in 2014 at the rank of Captain. During my 30 years, I served over 10 years at the command level of several divisions giving me the knowledge of the operational and administrative functions of a full service law enforcement agency. My commitment to Guilford County hasn't diminished. I still feel an obligation today to the citizens of Guilford County to provide professional law enforcement services and be the advocate for safer communities.
I grew up in a “different” Guilford County- a much safer, family friendly environment. We must strive together to build back what we all are in search of; Safe communities, safe schools, and a sense of peace to raise our families. We get started by electing officials that represent the moral fabric that mends us together as a society of principles and values. Our differences should only make us stronger in finding solutions to issues that affect our lives in a negative way. I look forward to standing with the citizens in Guilford County in finding these solutions together.
